About
My goal is to run within 50% of the IAAF ratified men's World Records (WRs) as they were prior to the 12th October 2019 for distances 400m to the Half Marathon in the shoe tech that was available and the IAAF rules at that time. The official IAAF list is here but see post here for what I consider as the non-asterisked (i.e. prior to 12th October 2019) WRs. Bottom line the rules are;
Sounds easy doesn't it? Well now try when you're 50+ like me!
FWIW the 'extremes' of 100m/200m and Marathon are excluded because my body just wouldn't take those anymore :( ... and besides Kipchoge's 2:01:39 in Berlin 2018 was in Alphafly prototypes with a rumoured 3 x CF plates in them! Kimetto's 2:02:57 from 2014 would be the reference time IMO. And Bolt's 9:58 for 100m / 19:19 for 200m records from 2009 are certainly 'outliers' to say the least :)
Right, now that's sorted, here's the list of target times according to the above rules and what I'll need to do (together with the Age-Graded Score @ 50 from World Masters Athletics, my outside and inside/tready PBs (and my Veteran's 40+ PB if it's faster);
And FWIW the Australian records (ARs) under any conditions are as follows so they'll be a good 'interim' goal;
- 400m / 800m / 1000m / 1500m / 1 mile / 2,000m / 3,000m / 5,000m (or 5k) / 10,000m (or 10k) / HM
- on the road, track or treadmill but the 5000m+ on the treadmill probably because of lockdown and convenience and 3000m and below on track most likely
- excludes the 20,000m - track, 20k - road and One Hour WRs because Kamworor's road HM WR beats all Gebrselassie's track ones at those distances
- Nike Vaporflys are/were allowed for both road and track but no Alphaflys / Dragonflys (or mystery prototypes as I'm no pro!)
